S/PAUL
THE MUSICAL
ABOUT THE SHOW
Q: What is S/Paul the Musical?
A two-act stage musical that dramatizes the transformation of Saul of Tarsus into the Apostle Paul — blending historical research, original music, and modern framing.
Q: Why is it called S/Paul?
The title reflects the dual identity at the heart of the show: Saul (Act I) and Paul (Act II). The slash (/) represents both transformation and tension — between past and future, law and grace, faith and doubt.
Q: Is this religious or secular?
Both. It explores sacred themes through scholarly, musical, and human lenses. The show respects its biblical source material while inviting audiences from all beliefs (or none) to reflect on transformation and conviction.
MUSIC & STYLE
Q: What kind of music is in the show?
The score mixes pop, folk, gospel, lament, liturgy, and choral ensemble — a genre-crossing blend that echoes both ancient rituals and modern musical theatre.
Q: Are there recordings available?
Yes — select demos from both acts are available to stream here. Fully arranged studio versions are in development.
CREATIVE TEAM
Q: Who wrote the show?
The show was written by a graduate student, biblical scholar, performer, and writer whose research into the economic theology of Paul inspired the musical, her name will be released once the dissertation is evaluated.
Q: Is this based on your dissertation?
Yes — S/Paul grew from an academic thesis on Paul’s collection for Jerusalem, exploring themes of power, transformation, and theological disruption.
Q: Who wrote the music?
The original melodies were written by M.J. Jenkins, and we are currenly seeking an arranger/composer to finalize the tone.

Q: Is it one long show or two separate ones?
Both. The full production consists of two acts:

Paul the Musical (Act II)
They can be performed together or marketed separately.
Q: How inclusive is the cast?
The show prioritizes diverse casting in race, gender expression, and denominational background. While the lead apostles are male due to historical accuracy, nontraditional casting is welcomed.
